Warren Miller's JOURNEY Comes To The Brighton Center For The Performing Arts In February With The Year's Best Ski & Snowboard Footage

Warren Millers JOURNEY will show at The Brighton Center for the Performing Arts to Benefit The Mt. Brighton Ski Patrol. February 20th (8pm), February 21st (7pm) and February 22nd (3pm) $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door.

February 8, 2004-Brighton, MI-The Mt. Brighton Ski Patrol will be bringing Warren Millers Journey to the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts on February 20, 21 and 22nd as a fundraiser for the volunteer group. Late last year the Ski Patrol had lost approximately $6,000 from their annual Ski Swap which is usually their only fundraiser. The Ski Patrol is a group of volunteers that assist skiers when they are injured and help promote safe skiing at local area ski areas. They use the money they raise each year to buy supplies, provide training, building maintenance and other expenses throughout the year. The loss represented about 80% of their annual budget.

Warren Miller Entertainment brings its 54th annual feature film JOURNEY. From the legendary filmmaking company comes an all-new film packed with incredible action cinematography from around the globe. Loyal Warren Miller fans will be lured by this film's new heights in powder, cliffs and exotic locations, a formula that induces seven out of ten audience members to return annually. JOURNEY delivers the very best of this year's skiing and riding, fusing terrain park progression with the backcountry, and technical lines with endless powder shots. Warren Miller camera crews chase the snow year round.

JOURNEY takes viewers along for the ride in the quest for perfect conditions from Aspen to Chile and Alaska to Morocco. Journey across four continents with 19 film crews and 73 athletes--including icons Glen Plake, Bode Miller, and Terje Haakonsen--for the adventure of a lifetime. JOURNEY also includes a tribute to an athlete who pioneered the sport of snowboarding - Craig Kelly. Whether riding rails in Breckenridge or skiing with best friends in Chamonix, this year's film shows that it's not about the destination; it's about the journey. JOURNEY takes viewers to amazing destinations across the globe, including:

* MOROCCO: An intrepid crew with diverse backgrounds from kayaking to mountaineering and telemark skiing joins forces to ski and snowboard the highest peaks in North Africa then kayak Morocco's raging rivers. Immersed in the beauty of the mountains and surrounded by the spiritual mystique of its culture, they bond with the locals for a life-altering adventure.

* BELLA COOLA, B.C., CANADA: Bode Miller, who is on course to become the U.S. Ski Team's best ever skier, dons fat skis for the first time, leaving the race course for huge turns in the B.C. backcountry. He's modest about his medals and fearless while hurtling down the steeps.

* POINTS NORTH (CORDOVA), ALASKA: This sequence leans heavily on Alaska's "get scared" factor with: helicopter sky diving, Kent Kreitler riding out surging snow on 45 degree steeps, and Micah Black ripping a knife-edge ridge. Quite possibly the most extraordinary ski cinematography in Warren Miller's history, this sequence will leave audiences breathless.

* HEAVENLY, CALIFORNIA: Mark Twain called Tahoe one of the most beautiful places on earth, but never imagined it this way. Glen Plake shares his favorite spots, from Heavenly's rails and powdery steep back bowls to his favorite run, hailed for "1,700 vertical feet of the gnarliest moguls in the nation."

* BACKCOUNTRY SNOWBOARDING: Snowboarding's undisputed superstar, Terje Haakonsen, leads top riders down chutes, through powder, and off monstrous backcountry kickers and gap jumps, taking snowboarding to a whole new level.

* VALBRUNA, ITALY: The journey takes a turn for the hilarious as skiers Chris Anthony, Spencer Wheatley and Wendy Fisher endure three flights, four trains, three countries, and one very-overloaded moped to get to Valbruna, Italy. Luckily Valbruna's fresh powder is well worth the journey.

* BRECKENRIDGE, COLORADO: The world's most talented freeskiers take over the Freeway Terrain Park for the Nissan Ride & Rail Exhibition. Ski legend Glen Plake presides over the extravaganza, sessioning with brothers Peter and Mike Olenick, Mike Laroche and many more of the sport's superstars. This is what freeskiing's all about: serpentine rails, a super pipe and tow-in big-air all in one park.

* PORTILLO, CHILE: Mogul superstars Hannah Hardaway, Toby Dawson, and David Babic take a break from the training schedule of the U.S. Freestyle Team to unwind in the powder of the Chilean backcountry. The crew cooks up a riotous stunt, building a huge jump over a mountain restaurant then launching over unsuspecting lunchtime patrons.

* VERBIER, SWITZERLAND: Anyone who's dreamed of flying could never, ever, imagine anything quite like this! Free-falling in a special flying suit from 1,000 feet above craggy Swiss peaks, LoJean-Albert accelerates to 80 mph, zooming just 15 feet off the snow and rocks.

* CHAMONIX, FRANCE: Ski mountaineers Doug and Emily Coombs, Mike Hattrup, and Tim Petrick--all in their 40s--journey to Chamonix to deftly scale then descend some of the world's most gnarly couloirs. They conquer 45-degree lines with the authority of age and experience.

* YELLOWSTONE CLUB, WYOMING: At 78 years young, Warren Miller is still making great movies and still making smooth turns at his favorite resort. Vintage shots from his 54-year legacy juxtapose with fresh footage--it seems the journey is only just beginning.

JOURNEY will be shown at The Brighton Center for the Performing Arts for just 3 nights (February 20, 21 and 22nd) on this limited engagement. Tickets are available on Ticketweb.com, at Mt. Brighton and several area ski and sporting goods stores. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door. Along with adrenaline-filled action and magnificent scenery, JOURNEY delivers a high-energy soundtrack on a state-of-the-art digital sound system.
